| Venice Baroque Orchestra November 12, 2010, 7:30 pm “THE SEASONS PROJECT” with Robert McDuffie, Leader and Violin Soloist This evening combines two spectacular pieces: Antonio Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” and a new work by contemporary composer Philip Glass entitled Concerto No. 2 for Violin and Orchestra: “The American Four Seasons” which was commissioned by Robert McDuffie, The Toronto Symphony, The London Philharmonic, Aspen Music Festival, the Krannert Center and Johnson County Community College. “The first performance of the work – Violin Concerto No. 2, “The American Four Seasons” – was so spectacularly played by the new piece’s muse, American violinist Robert McDuffie, at Roy Thomson Hall Wednesday night that the event turned into one of the most exciting musical evenings of the year.” —Toronto Star (World Premiere Performance, Toronto, December 9, 2009) German State Philharmonic with Philippe Entremont, conductor and pianist January 26, 2011, 7:30 pm Based in Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, Germany, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie (German State Philharmonic) is the musical voice of the Rheinland region of Germany and divides its robust concert schedule between the regions two most important cities - Mannheim and Ludwigshafen. The orchestra is comprised of 88 musicians from 16 different countries. This is the orchestras first US tour, and will feature Philippe Entremont, piano soloist and conductor, whose successful debut in November 2008, inspired a regular collaboration. Their program to be performed includes composers: Strauss, Beethoven and Brahms Russian National Ballet Theatre March 16th, 2011, 7:00 pm "The Sleeping Beauty" The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s, when many of the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet Union’s ballet institutions were exercising their new-found creative freedom by starting new, vibrant companies dedicated not only to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet but to invigorate this tradition as the Russians began to accept new developments in the dance from around the world. The Sleeping Beauty is a full-length Ballet in Three Acts with Music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikowski and Choreography by Marius Petipa. |
